Holy Moose!

Lots of Moose sightings this week!

31 °C

Went to Noras for a nice breakfast and then decided to go for a hike looking for wild huckleberries.

The hike was hard work as it was very very hot (31 C) and we were going uphill... my poor wee legs.
Which made it even better was that Jeff told me to make noise as there were bears and mountain lions in that area!!!

We were about 75% to the destination when we decided that we had not seen any berries at all and that it was probably too late in the season for then, so we turned back. I was happily snapping pictures of the flowers and the mountains peeping through the trees when Jeff told me to "STOP". I had my head down switching off the camera and when I looked up I saw a big brown shape at the other side of the tree I was near. I was lost for words and frozen to the stop wondering if it was a bear or a moose or what! Jeff caught up with me and the shape put its head up and looked at us... it was a moose but that did not mean we were safe by any means. He looked pretty young and did not have a rack so maybe he would be a little unpredictable. He continued to eat the bush he was munching on then casually strolled up the hill looking at us all the time. We walked slowly past him but my leg was shaking like mad ha ha!

After getting back to the car we went to Dornans at Moose for an ice cream and to post some postcards and we saw yet another moose! This one was under the bridge and did have a big rack but the hordes of snap happy tourists walking up the bank of the river but we got a few pictures of him from the safety of the bridge this time.

In the evening we went to the Wort for dinner where we both had pork but Jeffs was better than mine :(

Grand Teton National Park

stunning!!

sunny 26 °C

I am staying in Jackson (Hole) for my vacation and one of the most awesome things about this is that it is right on the doorstep of two beautiful national parks. It is practically inside GTNP (Grand Teton National Park) and is only a short drive from Yellowstone National Park.

So the last few days we have been getting up early(by my standards) and going up into GTNP.

On Tuesday we picked up some supplies at the "Creekside Deli" and went for a picnic by the snake river it was a glorious day but alas we did not see any cool wildlife :(

I did try some pepper jack cheese which is a hard light coloured strong cheese from Wisconsin. The pepper part is pepper(doh) and chillies .. and although I ate it all it was a little strong for me.... might have been nicer melted.

In the evening we went to the "Sweetwater" restraunt which is a lovely place to eat. Jeff started with "chilli macaroni and cheese" and I was so hungry that I tried it .... and liked it!!!... It wasn't very cheesy and so that was good for me :P

----

Wednesday we left town at 8am and drove up the scenic route to Colter Bay. It was a glorious day and I think I got some nice pics of the Tetons although I also seem to be a little red skinned today ha ha!

In the evening we went to "Dornans" it is a little eatery in a place called Moose just outside of Jackson. They have a deck area where you can dine while enjoying amazing views of the tetons.... a must for every visitor to "the hole"

Here comes the rain ...

storm -6 °C

Awww so its raining in Jackson today.

Not a very eventful morning... went to a bunch of shops to get supplies.

In the afternoon we went to "El Gorditos" mexican restaurant. Had a huge bbq pork sandwich thing called a Torta that comes with sour cream, lettuce cheese, tomatoes, guacamole and salsa... it is a beast!and very delicious although even I could only eat just about half. Lots of tasty chilli sauces to try and I found one I really enjoyed called Valentina mmmmm

After eating we swung by the mexican gorcery store an I got a big bottle of Valentina and saw a massive bottle of my lovely cholula but alas it was too big for my case :(

Got a nice Churro which I had in the evening with my tea mmmm

Had a nice day but wheres the sun!!

Woo Hoo I arrived!

overcast 27 °C
View Jackson Hole, Teton & Yellowstone on lorien665's travel map.

So on I set out on my journey to Jackson Hole to see Jeff, and as always I never really know what to expect which the flights etc.

Got to London to find that the flight information boards were screwed and they were tannoying (in a muffled voice) the flight gates etc.... pandamonium!! Eventually the flight took off approx 50 mins late but said they would probably arrive ontime.

Lies all lies... got to Chicago around an hour and 15 minutes late which meant that I had 1 hour to clear customs, pick up my luggage, recheck my luggage and get to the gate... and all in an airport I had not visited before!

The line for customs was horrific.. they had one line for both visitors and residents so it was really very busy! Waited for about 25 minutes and then we lucked out.. they opened another line and voila I was 5th in line! So 20 minutes later I am through, got my bag as it was one of the only ones left on the carousel and off to find the drop off point.

Found the drop off point and the guy told me I had 5 minutes to get to the gate arghhh!
Walked around aimlessly for a bit trying to find "K8"... had to take a train ride that lasted about 10 minutes then pass through yet more security... the time is now 5.05pm local time and my flight takes off at quarter past....stressed! Ran for a bit to reach the gate and finally got there to find the staff all relaxed and calm and saying "don't worry plenty of time maam" ha ha typical Jackson Hole styley.... horizonally relaxed :)

So I made the flight after all and arrived in JH 2 hours and 45 minutes later - twenty minutes early.

It's nice to be back, it's such a beautiful place and everything is so cute!

Went to the shop for a few supplies and got carryout from Chinatown (in my opinion Jackson best chinese restaurant) and then came back to Jeffs dads place... wow what a pad it is super super cool!

So finally I get to sleep... mmmmmm :))
